Here on Shinobi Chronicles you have two different ranks: a skill rank and your shinobi rank and each serve their own purposes when it comes to what your character can do, and its story development.

Skill Rank

Skill rank determines your overall power and abilities. This rank is important when figuring out the strength of a jutsu you can use, or how powerful of a weapon you can wield. Your skill rank also determines your base chakra before factors such as EP prizes or stats come into play.

You can have a skill rank higher than a shinobi rank, in fact you very much can be an S-rank civilian if that is the way you wish to play your character. The base chakra given per skill rank is as follows:

E-Rank: 150
D-Rank: 200
C-Rank: 300
B-Rank: 350
A-Rank: 400
S-Rank: 500

In order to increase your skill rank you will need to do nothing more than post! Once you’ve hit a certain milestone you qualify for a skill rank increase, and you can find those milestones below:

E-Rank: Starting here is not a necessity, but doing so will earn you the Prodigy Trait once you hit D-rank! To go from E-Rank to D-rank you must have 25 posts.
D-Rank: You may start at D-Rank if you wish, however you will not gain the Prodigy Trait. To go from D-Rank to C-Rank you must have a total of 50 posts.
C-Rank: You may start at C-Rank if you wish, however you will gain no additional benefits from doing so. To go from C-Rank to B-Rank you must have a total of 100 posts.
B-Rank: Starting at B-Rank is only available if there are freebie high-rank slots. To go from B-Rank to A-Rank you must have a total of 250 posts.
A-Rank: Starting at A-rank is only available if there are freebie high-rank slots. To go from A-Rank to S-Rank you must have a total of 500 posts.

Please note that this is the total role-play posts you’ve made regardless of what those posts went for (training, building, ect). Also, if you choose to start out as a higher rank (such as D or C) you will be given the posts automatically that you would’ve needed to reach that point.

Example: You want to start off at C-rank, so your post count would start out at 50 posts.

Prodigy Trait: You’ve put in a great deal of effort into your studies and development and as such you gain a -3 post count when training jutsu, specs, or elements, as well as a -3 post count when building items in character. This stacks with other abilities, but can never bring your training post count cost below 1 post.

Shinobi Rank

Shinobi Rank determines your position within the military structure itself, or if you’re even actually a member of the military. These ranks are as follows in order of least power to most power:

Civilian
Academy Student
Genin
Chuunin
Special Jounin
Jounin
Jounin Commander
Kage

You can choose to start out as a Civilian, Academy Student, Genin, or Chuunin if you choose (unless there are freebie military slots available in the particular village you wish to join). Your shinobi rank determines the type of military missions you can take (see mission guideline), as well as the type of team you can take.

Taking teams on Shinobi Chronicles is something we strive to make worthwhile. The type of team you can take is determined by your shinobi rank. Regardless of your rank, teams can be either a single student, or a team of 2-3 students. The general rule of thumb is that your sensei must always be ranked higher than you, and must be at least a Chuunin before they can take on the sensei roll. Team membership information is up to the appropriate Kage for that village, and teams can only be composed of the members of the sensei’s village (IE: Someone from Hinowa cannot have a team that comprises members of Yokuchi/Sora/ect).

When doing threads with your team, either as a team member or sensei, training done in those threads gains an automatic -2 post count that stacks on top of any other training reductions. Please note training reductions can never be taken below 1 post regardless of the amount of reductions that stack.

To rise up through the ranks of the Military you must do a specific number of missions for each rank, and those are as follows:

Academy Student to Genin: 3 D-rank missions
Genin to Chuunin: 3 D-rank missions, 2 C-rank missions
Chuunin to Special Jounin: 3 C-rank missions, 2 B-rank missions
Special Jounin to Jounin: 3 B-rank missions, 2 A-rank missions
Jounin to Jounin Commander: 3 A-rank missions, 2 S-rank missions

Please note that missions turned in previously for rank ups do not count towards missions you need for future rankups. In layman terms: if you do three D-rank missions as an Academy student to get to Genin, once you’re a Genin you must do a further three D-rank missions on top of then two C-rank missions in order to meet the requirements to rank up to Chuunin.

Civilians -> Military Member

As stated before you can start off as a civilian, however if you choose to join the military you may do so! All civilians when creating characters start off with choosing the village in which they live, the village in which they have citizenship. If you wish to join the military you may choose to do so, and in fact you’ll be paid for it! For civilians choosing to enter into the military you will gain a bonus of 2,500 ryo as a ‘sign on’ bonus, and will be elevated to the rank of Academy Student to begin your journey through your village’s military system!

Please note that while you do not need a military rank, or a high military rank in which to progress from skill rank D up to skill rank S, you must keep yourself physically and mentally fit in the military. This means that your skill rank must be on par or higher than your military rank.

Civilian | Academy Student: E+
Genin: D+
Chuunin: C+
Special Jounin: B+
Jounin: A+
Jounin Commander: S
