Jutsu are an important aspect if you wish to do dangerous missions, participate in certain events, and otherwise survive the harsh world of the shinobi. You may purchase or learn jutsu from the jutsu libraries or otherwise customize your own. Below you’ll find the information you need on using jutsu, creating the best techniques possible, and purchasing and learning jutsu.

Before delving into the world of jutsu creation or learning, however, please be aware of the limitations of your character based on their Skill Rank (D - S). The lower your skill rank the less likely you are to be able to use a high ranked jutsu, or the more chakra you must spend when using one.

Skill Rank and Jutsu
D-rank: Capable of using up to and including C-rank jutsu. Jutsu that are B-rank and A-rank are capable of being used however it takes an additional 25 chakra (on top of the chakra cost of the jutsu itself) to use as the finite chakra control needed is not yet within a D-rank’s grasp. S-rank and SS-rank techniques are incapable of being used at this rank.
C-rank: Capable of using up to and including B-rank jutsu. Jutsu that are A-rank are capable of being used however it takes an additional 25 chakra (on top of the chakra cost of the jutsu itself) to use as the finite chakra control needed is not yet within a C-rank’s grasp. S-rank and SS-rank techniques are incapable of being used at this rank.
B-rank: Capable of using up to and including A-rank jutsu. Jutsu that are S-rank are capable of being used however it takes an additional 50 chakra (on top of the chakra cost of the jutsu itself) to use as the finite chakra control needed is not yet within a B-ranks grasp. On top of that only ONE S-rank jutsu may be used per thread. SS-rank techniques are incapable of being used at this rank.
A-rank: Capable of using up to and including S-rank jutsu at no additional chakra cost. SS-rank techniques are capable of being used at this rank, however they require an additional 100 chakra (on top of the chakra cost of the jutsu itself) to use as the finite control needed is not yet quite within an A-ranks grasp. Only ONE SS-rank jutsu may be used per thread.
S-rank: You are the cream of the crop and therefore nothing evades your grasp when it comes to performing jutsu (outside of your own chakra reserves that is!).

--------------------

Jutsu are broken down into classifications of rank depending on the range, damage output, healing abilities, and various other factors. The general rule of thumb is the more potent or powerful a jutsu is the higher rank its classification is going to be. Classifications range from D-rank, C-rank, B-rank, A-rank, S-rank, and finally SS-rank. D-rank jutsu are small things, such as creating a spark to ignite a jutsu, giving someone a mild shock, or healing a small cut, where as jutsu on the scale of SS-rank are incredibly powerful, often capable of village-ending power, with the range to match, and are very hard (but not impossible if done right) to defend against.

Before we get lost in how to make jutsu, however, let’s tackle how we learn jutsu. There are two ways in which you can learn jutsu on Shinobi Chronicles. The first way is to train them yourself: this costs zero ryo, but you must hit a specific post count depending on what the jutsu requires. The second way to learn jutsu is to buy them using the ryo you’ve earned through posting, missions, events, ect. Just like with post count, the higher classification the jutsu is the more expensive it’ll be.

Learning Jutsu via Post Count

D-rank: 5 Posts
C-rank: 7 Posts
B-rank: 10 Posts
A-rank: 13 Posts
S-rank: 15 Posts
SS-Rank: 20 Posts

Please note the following:
  • You may only use the posts you wrote to purchase jutsu in this way, this is not based on the overall post count of a thread but rather the posts that you wrote.
  • Once a group of posts has been used to learn or gain something it cannot be used again. So if you have done 10 posts in a thread and wish to purchase a D-rank technique, you would then only have 5 posts remaining in which to learn something else with.
  • You can carry over posts to another thread that are unused, however you must mark it in the thread you left what those additional post counts are being carried over for, and you must mark in your new thread where the additional post counts came from including linking to the previous thread.
  • To turn in training this way you would first have to exit the thread, mark at the bottom your total post count and what those post counts are going for. Then provide that link in your Jutsu Registry, and then make the appropriate modding request.
  • Please note you can use post counts from anything (unless it specifies otherwise) to learn jutsu.
  • Please limit “learning” jutsu to five at a time when learning them through post count unless you are learning more than five jutsu within the same thread!

If you’re learning a jutsu in character off of someone who has it already approved, paid for, and sitting in their Jutsu List you can learn it from them at a fraction of the post count - please note, however, that this thread you’re using must reference the technique being taught in some kind of way for it to be considered valid for the post count reduction. The reduction you will receive will depend on the rank of the jutsu being learned.

D-rank & C-rank: -2 Posts
B-rank & A-rank: -5 Posts
S-Rank: - 7 Posts
SS-Rank: - 10 Posts

Learning Jutsu via Ryo

D-rank: 100 Ryo
C-rank: 300 Ryo
B-rank: 500 Ryo
A-rank: 750 Ryo
S-rank: 1,000 Ryo
SS-Rank: 2,500 Ryo

Please note the following:
  • When using Ryo to purchase a jutsu please make note of it in your jutsu registration. If purchasing multiple jutsu at one time please calculate the total cost for all jutsu you are purchasing.
  • If you are only purchasing specific jutsu, as well as any time you are purchasing jutsu in general, please make sure you note which ones you are buying!
  • There is not a limit on the amount of jutsu you can purchase at one time.

--------------------

Now that you understand what jutsu are somewhat capable of, as well as how to train them, let's tackle what goes into the making of a jutsu. All jutsu require several mandatory elements, and you can find the template listed below. When creating jutsu please ensure that the entire template is filled out, if you ever have a question about something please don’t hesitate to reach out to staff and we’ll give it a look over.

Name: The Name of your Technique
Rank: The Rank of Your Technique (D - SS)
Type: Offensive, Defensive, Supplementary
Element: Does your Technique use any elements?
Specialization: What Specialization is needed to cast this Technique?

Range: How many meters does your Technique spread? Is it straight line or AOE?
Speed: How fast does your jutsu move?
Output: What specifically does your jutsu do? Level of damage, level of healing, ect?
Duration: How many posts does your Technique last?

Description: How is this jutsu cast (what is the trigger)? What does it look like? What does it do?

Code:
[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Rank:[/b]
[b]Type:[/b]
[b]Element:[/b]
[b]Specialization:[/b]

[b]Range:[/b]
[b]Speed:[/b]
[b]Output:[/b]
[b]Duration:[/b]

[b]Description:[/b]

A lot of the template is fairly self explanatory, but there are a few things that need to be noted. While we do not force hand seals in the traditional sense, your jutsu does require some kind of ‘trigger’, you can however have as much fun with this bit of jutsu flavor as you wish: a snap of the fingers, a specific stance, so on and so forth.

When creating jutsu please make sure you check with the guidelines listed below as to what range, output, and duration your techniques can have based on their rank.

--------------------

When creating jutsu you get a certain number of values that go into it, these values are based on the rank of the jutsu you’re attempting to create. These values are min, mid, and max. While you can break a max value into two mid’s, you cannot combine two mids into a max.

The Range, Speed, Output, and Duration of your techniques all require values which can be found in the tables listed below. You may balance the values you get (depending on the rank of your jutsu) in any way you see fit, however you cannot go above the allotted values without taking a drawback. Drawbacks to increase the values to your technique can be anything from an increased chakra cost, self damage, delayed activation, ect.

When it comes to increased chakra cost the general rule of thumb is a +5 to a technique will get you another Mid value, while an additional +10 chakra cost to a technique will get you an additional Max value.

To use self damage to add a Mid value you would have to take damage of two ranks below the technique (D-rank minimum), while adding a Max value would mean you must take damage of a rank below the rank of the technique (D-rank minimum).

Special Note for DOT Values:
When creating a jutsu that lasts more than 1 post you must use a value for it. 2 post duration is a Mid value, while 3 post duration is a Max value. The way that DOT works (including healing, and supplementary techniques) is that your first post will do the damage/healing/ect of the actual jutsu’s value (So an A-rank technique would do A-rank damage), while your next post would do damage of a rank lower (An A-rank technique would do B-rank damage on its second post) and so on and so forth for the duration of the jutsu. However, by paying +15 chakra on your second post, and +10 on your third post, you could superseed this value limit which would allow your jutsu to maintain its rank of damage throughout the duration of the technique. Techniques cannot usually last more than 3 posts total without a significant drawback applied to them.

Special Note for Homing Values:
Homing is needed if you wish to control a jutsu you’ve let go of (say in the case of throwing a ball of raiton/lightning at an opponent). Homing counts as a Max value, but with any values you may add a drawback to your jutsu to add homing onto it if you don’t have enough values left over (such as an additional chakra cost, ect).

Jutsu Values in Regards to Jutsu Rank

D-Rank: 1 Mid Value
C-Rank: 1 Max Value, 1 Mid Value
B-Rank: 1 Max Value, 2 Mid Values
A-Rank: 2 Max Values, 2 Mid Values
S-Rank: 2 Max Values, 3 Mid Values
SS-Rank: 3 Max Values, 3 Mid Values

Special Note for Values
Please keep in mind when making jutsu that certain status effects constitute a max value on their own: these include but are not limited to paralysis, sensory deprivation (taking a sense away), multi-targeting for healing, among others.

--------------------

Jutsu Values

Each value listed below has been separated into their min, mid, and max values. When creating a jutsu please keep those values in mind, and remember that you can only go above the allowed values for your techniques rank if you add an appropriate drawback to the jutsu itself. In general, as you make stronger jutsu you’ll find the overall min, mid, and max range of what those techniques are capable of to have increased.

Range

Range is broken down into two categories: straight line and radius. A jutsu going in a straight line will always go further than a justu that works within an AOE. Please note when choosing what you want your techniques range to be that jutsu going in a straight line, jutsu released from having contact with the jutsu caster, must have a honing effect (max value) added to it in order for it to be controlled after it’s been released.

Please note also that all ranges are measured in meters!

Straight Line Range:
D-Rank: 10 | 25 | 40
C-Rank: 30 | 45 | 60
B-Rank: 45 | 60 | 80
A-Rank: 100 | 125 | 150
S-Rank: 150 | 250 | 300
SS-Rank: 300 | 500 | 1,000+

Radius:
D-Rank: 2 | 4 | 6
C-Rank: 10 | 12 | 15
B-Rank: 20 | 30 | 40
A-Rank: 40 | 60 | 80
S-Rank: 100 | 125 | 150
SS-Rank: 150 | 300 | 500+

Sensory ranges vary differently than actual jutsu ranges, because of that they come with their own chart.

Sensory:
D-Rank: 20 | 35 | 50
C-Rank: 50 | 75 | 100
B-Rank: 150 | 200 | 300
A-Rank: 300 | 500 | 750
S-Rank: 750 | 1,000 | 1,500
SS-Rank: 1,500 | 2,000 | 3,000

Speed

Speed is done in terms of meters per second (MPS). As with the range tables, the higher classification the jutsu is in terms of rank the faster it’ll be. Speed is done like this as a way to determine if someone can simply out-run or otherwise dodge a jutsu coming at them with a more accurate estimation.

D-Rank: 3 | 6 | 9
C-Rank: 10 | 15 | 20
B-Rank: 30 | 40 | 50
A-Rank: 50 | 75 | 100
S-Rank: 100 | 150 | 200
SS-Rank: 300 | 500 | 750+

Output

When figuring out your output keep in mind the unique way the min, mid, and max work. Below you’ll find a table to give you a general idea of the amount of healing or damage you can do with your techniques.

Min: 1 Rank lower than the Technique
Mid: Same rank as the Technique
Max: 1 Rank higher than the Technique

Please note that you can bump jutsu up to 2 Rank’s higher than the technique if you add use two max values instead of one!

General Damage/Healing Descriptors
D-Rank: 2cm long light scratches, light bruising
C-Rank: 5cm cuts, deep bruising, 1st degree burns/tissue damage
B-Rank: 15 cm gashes, bone fractures, 2nd degree burns/tissue damage
A-Rank: Dismemberment, broken bones, 3rd degree burns/tissue damage
S-Rank: Torn to Pieces, Bones shattered, 4th degree burns/tissue damage
SS-Rank: Utter and complete destruction or restoration

Damage/Healing over Time

As briefly touched on before, your jutsu can last for more than a single post, however for a 2 post duration it costs a mid value, and for a 3 post duration it costs a max value. You also must be aware that during your first post your jutsu will do its original potency, the second post will be a rank less, and your third post a rank below that. By adding +15 chakra on your second post and +10 chakra on your third post (if applicable) on top of the cost of the jutsu itself you can negate this deterioration effect and instead keep the potency of your jutsu at its original value for the entire duration.

--------------------

Now that you know how to pay for jutsu and create them, it's time to explain the cost. Everyone has a finite amount of chakra, which can be increased through various means including EP prizes and stats (see stat guideline), as well as increasing your skill rank (see rank guideline). Depending on the classification of your techniques rank, traits your character might have, along with whatever drawbacks given to the technique itself, will determine how much chakra you'll need to spend. Each jutsu has a base cost that must be met before anything else in order for the jutsu to be cast, and this amount is based on the rank of the jutsu itself.

D-Rank: 10 Chakra
C-Rank: 15 Chakra
B-Rank: 20 Chakra
A-Rank: 25 Chakra
S-rank: 50 Chakra
SS-Rank: Base 100 Chakra (Further determined through moderation)

The cost of jutsu (especially certain types/elements) can be raised or lowered depending on clan traits, personal traits, ect., however the lowest a jutsu's chakra cost can be lowered is 5. All jutsu must cost at least 5 chakra regardless of stackable traits!
